Fruits and Nuts

Caroline Gose 1998 (Ohio)

I like boys who like boys
Ones that like my freckles and my voice
I like fruits and nuts just not in my bread
And I never leave anything unsaid

I like small talk and overly politeness
I tip on everything all the time, God’s my witness
I have a sunny disposition
And too easily make commitments

I say hello too much and I love you too often
And I love to come by just to stop in
Love to think I’m mesmerizing
Though I’m just ordinary I’m realizing

Most of all I forget I’m not in a movie
That “I think you’re pretty” is just something he said to me
Not a vulnerable confession of love
That ironically made him look tough
