Seven Signs You’re Livin’

Jeffrey Powell 1979 (Pittsburgh, PA)

November 23

¹)If those adopted tunes of your youth can
bring back crisper, clearer memories
than any olfactory freeze-frame
     You know your livin’

²)When life won’t seem to slow down
you can always meet it halfway
and act your age another day
     Nothing’s misgiven

³)Should a lull in the traffic hum
be a welcomed respite
and more your speed
     You’ll stay driven

⁴)Whether you have paid your taxes or
you’re late, taking the time for some
relaxation ought to still fit the bill
     Slices of heaven

⁵)Granted, making your ends meet will
prevail over anyone’s judgements
concerning the life you lead
     Best t’forgive ‘em

⁶)With the value of adversity in mind,
as Sir William Osler divined, it’s all
about the degree to which
     you’ve striven

So, despite what they say,
hopefully you may find
that life is made
     for givin’...

⁷)Because the noblest time you can spend
is, by adding to the trend of making
this world a better place
     to live in

Jeffrey Powell

A bit of an introvert, Jeffrey enjoys arranging words and dabbling in poetic forms as an outlet for expressing his thoughts, feelings, and observations. He tends to play by his own rules and darts in and out of the civilized world, as avoiding the conventional gathering is more his style. Jeffrey lives with his fraternal twin whom he enjoys sharing a laugh with at the opportune time. more…
