L'Heure

Henri de Regnier 1864 (Honfleur) – 1936 (Paris)

Rapide, aiguë et furtive,
L’aiguille sur le cadran
Perce l’heure où elle arrive
De son dard indifférent.

La rose, de ses pétales,
Compte l’instant qui se suit
En minutes inégales
Qui s’effeuillent sans un bruit.

Le temps pour toi se divise
Selon que tu l’as pensé !
Qu’il s’abrège ou s’éternise
Il deviendra ton passé.

Et, lorsqu’un jour de ta cendre
Les roses refleuriront,
Tu ne pourras plus entendre
Les aiguilles qui feront,

Sur le cadran à demeure,
Leur travail minutieux
De percer encore l’heure
Que ne verront plus tes yeux.
