L'Abandon

Henri de Regnier 1864 (Honfleur) – 1936 (Paris)

Le carrosse d’or roux, la chaise, le sabot
Qui piaffe au pavé clair et sonne sur la dalle,
N’animent plus la cour vaste, vide et royale
Où se sont tus les pas, le fouet et le grelot.

La porte s’entrebâille et le volet se clôt ;
Le vent use, tout bas, la pierre jaune et pâle ;
Le silence engourdi crispe de salle en salle
Ses deux ailes de cendre et sa bouche d’écho.

La fontaine qui chante en gouttes dans la vasque,
Ni le faune qui rit sous le marbre du masque,
Ni le vase fleuri, ni les blanches statues

N’ont pu faire s’entresourire l’un à l’autre,
Lui qui porte un miroir, elle qui s’y voit nue,
La Solitude assise et le Passé qui rôde.
