Hand to mouth

I met you at a friend’s house. So easy and tall
You made me feel free. My new forever doll.
We’d meet from time to time. You’d help to ease my mind.
I started to really need you, the only piece I could find.

You became my story. You became my song.
I gave you all of me. Though I knew it was wrong.
You’re my legacy. You’re my song.
I gave you everything, and you strung me along.

I kept coming back. I couldn’t get my fill.
Despite all that, you just made me ill.
You wanted all I had. Still, you wanted more.
Even when it was bad. You delivered like a whore.

You’re my story. You’re my song.
Stripped of all glory, you made me your pawn.
You were my legacy. You were my song.
You’ve tainted everything. More than ten years gone.

I kicked your ass to the curb. All I am your wreckage.
Still, you haunt and disturb. What’s left of salvage.
I hope it rips you apart. I hope you die without a vine.
You’ve been evicted from my heart. I can finally say it’s mine.

Continue my story. Re-write my song.
Restore me to glory. Clean and strong.
Change my legacy. Continue my song.
A rhyme of victory, progressive and long.
