Devil Alcohol

Collin Robert Cole 1993 (United States)

Like Barenaked Ladies, I discovered alcohol.
Unfortunately, I never recovered from alcohol.
I was sober for years and whipped several tears.
But it was no match for a single beer. Devil alcohol.
My father died of liver cirrhosis.
I watched him fall deep into psychosis.
He was a great man. And he always had a plan. But booze ate him like locust. Devil alcohol.
Booze makes you a king. Yes, booze is nothing, but a dream. But you'll lie, then you'll die. Booze makes you wake up and scream. Devil alcohol.
I wake up and shake. I quiver and I quake. Booze heals me and it shields me. But it also makes me violently ache. Devil alcohol.
Booze is a foe, not a friend. It' will bring my life to an end. I'm now just waiting, And the devil is baiting. Drinking is by far the worst sin.
Devil alcohol.
I pray for death. Peace comes in your last breath. It's taking too long, this might be wrong, But I won't be bereft. Devil alcohol.
I've loaded the gun. My life is done. I cock the hammer, and I shake and stammer, but I'm ready now. I look up at the sun. Devil alcohol...
