I Afrika

Hans Christian Andersen 1805 (Odense) – 1875 (Copenhagen)

Jeg er ovre i Marokko!
    er det ei et Eventyr?
Norden for mig er Europa,
    der jeg seer Trafalgars Fyr.
Havets Brænding har en Susen,
    Toner fra den danske Strand;
Selv i Afrika jeg synes,
    jeg er nær mit Fædreland;
Venners Stemme kan jeg høre,
    alt det Skjønne kan jeg see;
Lad det snee der, Skyen drysse
    Mandelblomster, Julesnee;
Lad det ruske, lad det regne,
    Vinden gaae til Marv og Been;
I Aartusinder dog grønnes
    der den friske Bøgegreen.
Danmark, Nordens ældste Rige,
    eengang stort, men lille nu!
Grændsen lille, Ungdomssindet,
    det har Storhed, den har Du!
Jeg i Havets Susen hører
    Toner fra den danske Strand;
Hører Du igjen mit Hjertes
    Banken, Du, mit Fædreland?
