'Us'
There is no 'us',
Save what roams, phantom-like,
Between the lines of this verse.
An 'us' to us never did belong,
Save when you and I, childlike,
Swam across the bars of a song.
And 'us' there shall never be,
As long as we, ever-weary,
Walk as One and Other - among millions.
May Time, in time, forever flatline
Whatever dim legends
We were to become.
