Today's sugar plums

Yesterdays poetry had sugar plums
dancing over a young one's head
Yesterday's poem spoke joy into us
Whenever we felt dread
We knew Jack and Jill went up a hill
we learned what happens we he fell down
We knew Mr. brown could moo and so can you
and make many wonderous sounds
Yesterday took a sad child
and hid them from what was harshly true
Yesterday took a bad day
and turned it magically anew
When did today sneak in
and why are we not prepared
Why is yesterday's youth so stressed out
When all the wondrous adventures we shared
Should we teach yesterday's poems today
Since are mind isn't there to write it yet
How is it yesterday's poets did magic
What happen today is what I don't get
I want to write about sugar plums too
I also want kids to dance in that wonder
I want to be the heroin of this story
Not that dusty old troll the bridge hid under
Maybe just maybe I can tell  them both
So maybe they won't be so ill prepared
Today I'll tell them just you wait and see
They'll be ready for both days shared
They'll be ready for a little storm
while reading under a magical oak tree
They'll sing with butterflies and handle a "goblin"
because he might be the good guy sadly
they'll know how to handle no and know they're loved
and embrace the a fair world with glorious change
I'll teach them just you wait and see
Just maybe they'll thrive and not feel so strange
