The blessings of freedom
Michelle Kimberly 2010 (United States)
Each day I worked each day I toiled,
Oh, how I dreamt not to plow in the soil,
This terror never ended, it went on every day,
Oh, how I wished I could just merely play,
I tried so hard to keep my tears back,
But sometimes I couldn't and was beaten for slack,
those days were so miserable, dreadful, and long,
And in an attempt to be joyful I'd sing myself song,
One day I just ran, I couldn't take it anymore,
Found somebody who helped me, he was an owner of a store,
He showed me the way to where the sky was not gray, And did this along with many who were stray,
We finally found the key which set us all free,
And now I live a life with all my family,
It was God alone who guided me to freedom,
So I gratefully thank him by voice and by drum,
I praise my God for the love that he shows,
who made a way through all my sorrows,
Every struggle and hardship that I went through then,
Are now worth it for my family, young women and men.
