Grant This, O Lord!
God, make the hunched ones straight anew
And newly bless the blind ones with the sight
Please let us be a bit like You
But no one stays a little crucified
Save from the might we may receive
And save us from our fake heroic acts
Let us be rich, but never thieves
If this is truly possible, in fact
And may God grant the strength to fight
To stay unbeaten by a violent gang
Neither a beggar nor a knight
Neither a victim nor the one who hangs
Give us fewer lacerations
When bloody wars go badly wrong
Grant more sites as destinations
But remind us where we belong!
Do not allow our countrymen
To kick you out - lonely and bereft
And may your wife still love you when
You have no money whatsoever left
And let the liars be disgraced
When your voice is heard in children’s cries
If not in men’s, then women’s face
Allow us to behold our living Christ
But, oh, how squalidly we bend
When carrying crosslessness up to the cross
Please, God, let more of God be sent
So that our faith is not completely lost
Oh God, grant all and all and all
To all, so that no one leaves upset
Grant things – the big ones and the small
But never things we shall regret!
