we sat and we watched the sunset
the bright crescent moon peeked out
from behind the soft purple clouds
as if letting our hearts know
that we didn’t have to see the dark side
of things

you sat and watched the sunset too
as calm as the breeze, taking in the silence
as loud as the colors in the sky
something about that night was beautiful
more than just a word—beautiful

as it played and replayed
the endless journey of love

the bright crescent moon sat and watched us
as the last rays of sunlight slowly disappeared
beneath the hazy horizon
it, too, slowly drifted into the soft purple clouds
taking with it the last bit of light i saw
in us.
