Real love
Danielle Elmore 2003 (Alabama)
When we picture the ideal romance
Im sure we can agree we think of movies like
the titanic, romeo and juliet, or maybe the notebook,
We have these ideas in our heads about the perfect person
We fail to realize that true love can not exist without problems,
We have seen so many fairtales live the perfect life
We forget that humans are not perfect,
But real love still exists,
Real love looks like hard conversations,
It looks like fighting over who is going to cook dinner,
Real love looks like working out problems,
Real love looks like cuddles while watching a movie,
It can make you mad sometimes,
It can make the worse of days turn into the best days,
Real love can help you grow,
I promise you that it exists,
It can give you a headache,
It can be scary,
Real love can be a challenge,
Real love knows your secrets,
It can be flowers just because,
It can be flowers to say i’m sorry,
Real love is a mixture of the good and the bad
Real love is work, but it is worth the effort,
Real love exists,
I swear to you it does,
But the version of real love we see on the screens, does not.
Rocky balboa once said that “ the world aint always going to be
Sunshine and rainbows” and the same can be said about real love
Its not always going to be perfect,
Everything is not always going to magically repair itself
You have to communicate,
You have to try,
But real love still exists,
I promise, it still exsists
About this poem
I wrote this as a reminder to myself and others that real love still exists. In todays society it is hard to believe that it does.
