"Love and Death Slow Dancing"

“Love and Death Slow Dancing”
Love and death,
Manifests from the same light,
Occurs in the same life.

I am asked why I want to die
and I speak from the heart when I say
“to end the suffering”.
The suffering that is a result of passionate love.
Passionate love for connection,
Passionate love for escapism,
Passionate love for belonging.

I am asked why I want to die
and I speak from the heart when I say
“My body’s love for drugs is stronger than my will to live”.
Addiction is dangerous
but when addiction befriends love,
It becomes deadly.

I am a walking corpse,
Awaiting life’s most intimate experience,
Death.

About this poem

This poem is a commentary on the relationship of love and death. It depicts how closely related they are, really emphasizing that good can't exist without bad and vice versa. This piece also hints at metal illness and the toxicity that follows when romanticized.
