A Love That Never Was, But Will Always Be

Simran Acharya 2002 (Kathmandu)

In the playground where we met,
A memory I can't forget,
Your smile was a ray of sun,
And I knew you were the one.

Innocent hearts, so pure and true,
Mine ached with a love for you,
But I never dared to confess,
For fear of causing you distress.

We played together every day,
My love for you grew in every way,
I wished upon each shooting star,
To be with you, my guiding star.

But time passed by, and we grew apart,
Our paths diverged, breaking my heart,
I watched as you fell for another,
While I pined for you, a love unrequited forever.

Now, years have gone by, and I still recall,
The unrequited love, the one that took my all,
But I hold on to the memories of you and me,
As the sweetest, most innocent love of my childhood fantasy.

Though we'll never be together, my love,
I'll cherish the moments, the memories thereof, For you'll always be the one I adored,
 My childhood love, forevermore.

About this poem

This poem is a remembrance of my own childhood where love just meant as being with that person whose presence brought joy and hope. Now the individuals have grown apart but mellow memories still lingers.
