I Am My Mother's Child

Mildred Harris 1964 (New York)

Ode

She gave me her brown eyes
And passed along with them knowledge,
She left me some words to ponder upon
Which will forever be embedded in my heart.
Whether I acknowledged it or not,
I was a part of her and she part of me.
Yes, intertwined were me and she!
I Am My Mother's Child.
In the midst of our life, in the midst of the memories,
I recall her love for dancing, laughter and humor.
Her strength came from deep within.
She taught me unwavering Foregiveness,
She taught me the trueness of Unconditional Love,
She gave me her brown eyes.
I Am My Mother's Child.
