I Don't Fit In

Sometimes talking to people
is like a performance,
I’m like, "Oh, no, not this again...
not doing this dance."

Dark skin girls
don’t fit in,
Man, can you,
rock my melanin?

Hey, does the shoe
fit in?
In the shoe store,
"Heck, yes, come on in,
there’s more."

Sometimes, I don’t feel like I fit in,
But then I remember,
God gave in-
credible talent
and creativity,
more than that
to infinity.

There's still hope for me,
never mind the jabs and taunts,
they give me,
I will fit in, you'll see...

About this poem

This poem is about how I don't fit in because of my dark complexion, my culture, the way I talk, etc. Unfortunately, in my experience, people generally have preconceived notions about me when they first meet me. I'm still trying to fit in by the way. I'm also hopeful that one day I will fit in and find my "tribe".
