To Be Love

Matt Fleming 1981 (United States)

To be love
first, weep effusively
caress, when comfort is critical
fill a bucket with raindrops of trust
glow with gratitude in the darkness
be kind
speak carefully and never pierce
stare exuberantly without blinking
bloom with tenderness
wait, until you must hurry
stand firm at the edge of the cliff
and block love's plummet
even if you have to hit the ground first.
