Angela
Don’t let her know when I die
or if I hurt or bleed.
I only exist to her
When I can fulfil a need.
Was abortion not an option then,
when you created me?
You left me with you parents
for them to take care of me.
They loved me as if I were there own
even though you aren’t theirs.
No DNA to obligate them
but they stepped up, showed me someone cares.
And yes I felt love, they raised me well
but that love never came from you.
It breaks a child to feel like that
To wonder “what did I do?”.
Now your parents both have gone
And you don’t have to pretend
To come around, or ask about me
The charade of love can end.
I’m on my own now, that’s how it feels
Even though I’m not alone.
I have my own family now
Children and a husband of my own.
But sometimes you just need your mum,
I hear other people say.
That’s not something I’ve ever felt
Rejected from the first day.
So understand this isn’t spite,
I know she just won’t care.
So please don’t tell her when I die.
She won’t notice I’m not there.
About this poem
My Mum never wanted me and it’s the signal most painful thing over ever dealt with.
