The Boat of Man

The boat lies upon a now lifeless lake
Floating there, an explorer, yet
as still as these dead waters
of small event and smaller proportion
    In which it lies
It holds no goal or resolution
A thoughtless vessel of indifference
Within rests an emptiness
Which shouts ever-louder than
The noise of the land where it sits
Where the life of nature dwindles
    Evermore
A creature of no consequence
And yet a disturbance to the world
It defies breaking and sinking
    Failure and Death
With an impassive
Coldness and lack
Of Concern for anything and everything
but to stay above and beyond
The depths of the lake
    In which it lies
