the mirror

it hurts to look in the mirror and feel the way i do
to look in the mirror,
and see nothing but the things i wish i could change
the mirror is a ghost
she haunts me
when our eyes meet, that’s when she whispers,
“too skinny, too fat,
too different, too basic”
“do you even eat?”
“maybe you should slow down”
“ew, that’s so cringe”
“where’s your personality?”
the mirror knows what she’s doing
she makes us wonder if they’re right
because when we wonder,
we look at her
we stare in the mirror and pick and pull at our bodies until we forget whose it is
she wants us to look
the mirror is many things
a ghost, a model, a reflection,
a queen
a power hungry queen
and every mirror is the same.
