If I'm late

Basudev Karmakar 1974 (West Bengal , India)

       If I’m late
Momma advises me-
If I run faster than plane,
If I learn faster than any brain,
My success will scatter in every lane.
She warns me-
If I brush late, eat late,
If my answer is not quickly set,
On day will come, I will have no fate.
Momma assures me-
If I can think faster than mind,
If I can fill the gaps faster than wind,
I will have the highest bliss of any kind.
Momma hears from me-
Like everything, if I am late to bed,
Thieves and ghosts won’t pass our gate,
Even god will be tired and my death will be late.
