Enamored by the Muse : A Love Affair with Art
Mawphniang Napoleon 1993 (Ri Bhoi)
Dear friends and relatives, I humbly beseech,
Please do not take offense if I neglect
Your calls and messages, for I am entrenched
In art, a passion that consumes my speech.
I beg your pardon if you find me rough,
For I forget to groom and clean myself,
My room a mess of books and clothes and such,
As I lose myself within my shelf.
And should you come with a surprise visit,
Please do not mind the state in which you find,
For food and drink are of no concern, fit
To distract me from the muse that's in my mind.
But once my art is done and I'm refreshed,
I'll spend good time with you, and be your best.
Do not be troubled by my Dr Jekyll,
For though I may seem strange, know I am still
The person you have always known, still full
Of love and laughter, and a joy to thrill.
And though I may seem distant, uninvolved,
Rest assured, my heart is ever near,
And though I may neglect to stay resolved,
You'll always find me here, and have no fear.
For art is my addiction, my release,
The only way I know to keep my peace,
And though it may cause some unease,
Please understand, it's just my art that I need.
So do not mind my oddities, my quirks,
For though I may seem strange, know that it works.
And when I am done and my muse is gone,
We'll sit and chat, and laugh and sing and roam,
And all the while, our bond will only grow,
And we'll forget the strange behavior shown.
For art may be my vice, my source of pain,
But it's also what keeps me sane,
And though it may cause me to refrain
From all the things that I would like to gain,
Still, I know deep down, it's worth the cost,
And I'll continue on this path I've chose,
For it's the only way that I can boast,
Of being true to myself, and what I know.
So friends and relatives, do not you see,
That art is just a part of who I be.
And though I may not always make it clear,
My love for you, it never disappears,
It simply takes a back seat, for a while,
As I delve into my creative style.
But when I'm done, and my work is complete,
I'll be back to my old self, and neat,
And we'll pick up right where we left off,
With memories, and laughter, and love.
So please, be patient, and understand,
That art is not just a hobby, it's a brand,
A part of who I am, and what I do,
And I hope you see that it's for you too.
For though it may cause some confusion,
It's what makes me unique, and a fusion,
Of all the things that make me who I am,
So let's embrace it, and extend a hand.
And let us celebrate this gift we share,
This love for art that takes us everywhere,
And though it may be strange, and a bit bizarre,
It's what brings us joy, and takes us far.
So let us not be hindered by our fear,
And let us not be swayed by what we hear,
For art is not just for the chosen few,
It's for everyone, including me and you.
And though it may be hard to comprehend,
And may at times, cause us to bend,
Still, let us hold on to what we know,
And let our love for art continue to grow.
So friends and relatives, heed my plea,
And let us embrace this art we see.
And though our paths may diverge at times,
Our love for art will always bind,
And bring us back to where we started,
With memories and laughter that never parted.
So let us not be too concerned,
With what the world may have learned,
For art is not just a simple craft,
But a bond that lasts, that's stronger than the draft.
And though we may have different ways,
Our love for art will always stay,
And guide us through the trials and strife,
And bring us joy and peace in this life.
So let us not be afraid to show,
The love for art that we both know,
For it's what makes us who we are,
And brings us closer to the shining star.
