Parenting #2

Dare you hold the weight of her
Whose feet don’t touch the ground.
Confine her, line her bed with myrrh
Throw petals all around.

She will never pass the test
Of scorching tar or frozen steel
If you dare to let her rest
Upon the ocean’s even keel.

Trust the moon to gently rock
The daylight from her eyes.
But know the stars will use their spark
To burn her when she cries.

Watch her leaping through the door
Confronting what resists her.
Silence, you! Her scream is more
Important than your whisper.
