Lentils : the epic

In the land of ancient monarchs grand,
Where power and prestige held sway in the land,
The commoners lived in servitude and dread,
Bowing down to their sovereigns, till deathbed.

But amidst the throngs of subjugated souls,
A valiant few dared to dream of something more,
They knew that true strength lay not in crowns or gold,
But in the mastery of simple things untold.

And so, with due diligence and decorum,
They pursued the art of lentil-eating, and broke free
From the shackles of subservience,
Ascending to a state of true autonomy.

For in the act of partaking thus,
They revealed their strength, their will, their innermost core;
A symbol of their courage, honor, and trust,
A sign that they were truly worth more.

And thus, with lentils in hand, they stood tall,
Defying kings and rulers, one and all;
For in this simple act, true strength resides,
And with it, the power to claim their rightful prize.

So let us all partake in lentils with pride,
For in this simple act, true strength resides,
And with it, the power to rise and strive,
To be free, and to claim our rightful lives.

About this poem

The epic above presents a powerful and poetic story of the struggle for autonomy and self-reliance in the face of oppression and subjugation. The author uses complex vocabulary such as "monarchs grand," "diligence," "decorum," "autonomy," "subjugated," "valiant," "ascending," "revealed," "innermost core," "truly worth more" and "prize" to convey the idea that true strength and power comes from within and not from external sources like gold or crowns. The imagery of "lentil-eating" and "shackles of subservience" further emphasizes the theme of mastering the simple things in life to break free from oppression. The rhyme scheme is consistent and adds to the overall structure and flow of the poem. The final lines "So let us all partake in lentils with pride, For in this simple act, true strength resides, And with it, the power to rise and strive, To be free, and to claim our rightful lives" gives a sense of hope and call to action. Overall, the epic is a great reminder to stay true to oneself and to strive for autonomy and self-reliance.
