Love's Teardrop

Kyle Heath 2001 (Cape Town)

Love's Teardrop

Oh my sweet poison, how the days have past you.
Just like honey, you were sweet and sticky.
Sticky for I could never break away from you.

Alas, the distaste for me is clear as water when my love was as thick as bread.

I was a bird sitting on wire,
the danger was worth loving you.

Like a sunflower howling for the light,
my love for you was evident.

You were my calming grizzly bear
in the woods of fear.

The apple of my eye is rotten now
and thus, I am blind.

Your heart had turned cold as it expelled me.
A silent tongue is all you left me now.

My life is now but a canvas filled with beige paint.
And even then, the beige was inspired by you.

I loved you so.
That was all you needed to take my strength.

About this poem

This is a poem about fallen love - love that's been broken but so hard to refuse. A tragic love story that is impossible to let go of.
