Life For You

The innocence in the eyes of a child
The curiosity in their mind
The naivety of it all
Slowly fades away as they grow
The reality changes them
The world they thought they knew
Is not what they come to know

Growing up I wanted to be an adult
Knowing everything, doing anything
How foolish I didn't know I was
I wish not to know some of the things I know
I wish not to have done some of the things I've done
"That's life for you", they'd say.

When you are little,
You want to do anything
You want to know everything
You grow up and then nothing seems interesting
Nothing seems worth doing
Till you become a parent
And then you understand.
"That's just life for you".

About this poem

I wrote this poem after an encounter with a little child that made me remember when I was little and how I wanted to be an adult.
