Façade

She sat there fighting both;
Her untold words,
And her outspoken silence
Guarded only
By a distorted conception of self-mastery
An enduring belief that estrangement is...
The sole chance to be at home

With the rhythm of every smile
She does her evasive dance;
Spinning around the holes
Drawing a picture of a whole
She knows that talented dancers never fall,
So she fell
Hitting the absence of the dancefloor
The smile on her face became a grin of the soul,
As she reached the bottom of nowhere
No mercy to implore
She's at home

That moment,
Not different from other moments,
A new "I'm fine" was born
****************

I sat there
Watching her escape
Escape by sheltering in place
She was telling stories
She couldn't believe
Listened to her heartbeat
While pretending ain't got one

I sat there
Examining the misty road
Between her empty words
And screaming heart
A single traveler,

I sat there
Crippled by the fear of
Discovering
Or being discovered
By an abandoned tenderness

As a wry smile sprouted up
From our barren battlefield,
A deadly attraction
Moved my feet
With every invasive step
Throughout that whole ground,
I forced a hole that didn't get me any deep

One hole,
Not different from other holes,
Swallowed me into a foreign venue
I saw her lying like a statue
As my arrival collided
With the departure of her smile,
I whispered from afar,
"Are you okay?"
