Hate

Shaderria Naves 1988 (United States)

A layer of skin beneath my skin
The hate that slowly seeps with

The deepest parts of my undeveloped soul
Cherished secretly to make me whole

Hatred is the color of my skin
So intensely hot it burns me within

So strong it kills my very soul
And burns the love that makes me whole

A penetrating suicide is my hate
A beauty skin deep to savage my fate

About this poem

This poem comes from a place of real pain. It speaks to the self hatred that was embedded in me as a child.. About how my dark skin caused me so much torment from others. This poem speaks from that point of view.
