Upside Down

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

Today the world is upside down;
The people smile when they should frown.
They claim to see when they are blind;
They hate to seek what they will find.

They show their teeth as I pass by;
They wish me well and hope I’ll die.
With flattering lips, they prophesy;
They will not change; they always lie.

I sleep with my head
At the foot of the bed;
I am just more alive
When I’m already dead!

Though I don’t own a thing,
I have more than I need.
Because from this world,
I have now been freed.
