Maybe I'm not the one

Insha Zehra 2004 (Lucknow)

How very seldom I hurt you,
How very seldom I ignore you,
I think I don't deserve you,
Maybe I'm not the one.

I'm aware that I don't care anymore,
Which, as a result might wither me from you evermore,
I think I don't deserve you,
Maybe I'm not the one.

In bygone days, I was carefree or you might say overfree,
But now there's a constant guilt flowing through within me.
I think I don't deserve you,
Maybe I'm not the one.

Now when I find myself shattered by my actions,
I think I cannot make any expectations.
I think I don't deserve you,
Maybe I'm not the one.

How promptly the time flew away.
How fast I saw my responsible self wither away.
I think I don't deserve you,
Maybe I'm not the one.

Every action of yours seems like a punishment to me.
The winds of realisation came a bit slower to me.
I think I don't deserve you,
Maybe I'm not the one.

I think I've realised enough for being regretful.
I've been guilty of my actions.
I apologize for trying to replace you with something temporary.
I'm completely drowned in guilt and expectations.

Forgive me.
Be mine once again.
Just how we used to be.
Let me anchor you once again.
