Juweria; the beautiful soul we lost

Abdiwahab Hashi 1986 (Jigjiga)

Is this what’s supposed to happen in this soil?
What hurts most, moment you lost your loved,
Juweria as a symbol, we tasted the pain most,
We followed the news, as her blood flooded for nothing
For the memory that shall not be removed,
Her Smiling face against an angry soldier,
Her pleasing and pride and one filled with disgust
A peace against violent and terror,
Shining one like the sun against selfish,
Injustices in every corner, war in every way
We miss beautiful souls every instant
And today was her destiny
such precious life could go in seconds
So easily and so fast,
In her home and with her comrades,
Hard to believe she is gone.

A beautiful soul carrying big goals
Perfect in every step, every stage of her life
Blessing and the best
Broad and blameless
A brilliant mother and a model
A teacher and advocate,
A visionary that placed both politics and development
In a parallel world of peace and love
Among so many other roles and responsibilities,
Talent and patience as her principles
Every step she takes had value for all,
Smart enough and born to lead
A possibility and prototypical for all girls
The princess of the Somalis,
such precious life we lost
So easily and so fast,
To hatred and vanity
In her home and with her comrades,
Hard to believe she is gone

About this poem

In October 25, 2022 Juweria Mohamed Subcis, a parliament member of the ruling party in Ethiopia was shot in Jigjiga airport, Somali region, Ethiopia. That incident was painful to all of us. This poem is a reaction to her value and the unexpected death of that beautiful soul.
