I am parent, I am TV.

I am to keep you distracted
I am to keep you entertained
In a world full of genocide and destruction
Keep you numb and drained

I am to provide for you, less of what you need to know
I am to provide for you, limited space to grow
your own thoughts and opinions
In help of you to become an unsuccessful minion

I aid in conditioning you
I aid in forcing down your throat
The political bias
that they want you to vote

I must obliterate that nagging feeling
That something is wrong, in the back of your mind
I must tell you that everything is fine
In a world full of genocide and destruction

I am your parent
And you are mine.

About this poem

A short poem that should subtly reveal the negative effects of a TV within a household. Although everybody has one, but what happens when your TV begins to feel like a member of your household, begins to feel like your parent. This is all part of their agenda, and whom "they" is, is up to the reader to find out.

Nicole Orimoloye

Hi, my name is Nicole. I am a student and although I used to despise studying English literature and language, I slowly grew more fond of it due to a new teacher giving my class another perspective on the subject. I now engage in writing a poem-a-day, by throwing all my feelings into the stanzas and turning it into an art piece. Each word is a different brush stroke, and I hope that as you venture on to read this poem, it paints your thoughts too. more…
