Mountain

As I stood on that mountain
alone and windswept,
I realized something.
I realized with the quilted
land below me and
the fiery painted sky above
and with the sun coming up to
kiss the new day,
I wanted to be anywhere but there.
Despite the beauty I faced on that
mountaintop, I felt incomplete.
Like the moon without the sun,
I felt incomplete.
And I realized, I’d trade the entire
world to be in your arms.
