Untitled #3

Humanity walks a razor's edge
I saw it in events replayed in my head
Images my mind struggles to forget.

An angry scorn in quick formation
Surrounded me with practiced precision
Tested the limits of my endurance
Built over three decades of tolerance.

In the chaos I saw with smile forlorn
The tight-rope of civilization swinging
With a force of ancient darkness born
That festers deep in human spawn
A prehistoric beast, primeval, unrelenting.

About this poem

A roadside scuffle between angry people stuck in traffic suddenly turned rather violent, and all I could think of is the fragile nature of civility.
