Still

Still

Do they ever really go away                                                                                                                       or are they lingering on the edge                                                                                                                          Do you only feel their presence                                                                                                                                          or are they nearby on some ledge

Do you dream of them each night                                                                                                           or are they telling you they're near                                                                                                                             Do they talk to you  all day                                                                                                                                                     a chat that only you can hear

Do you see them as you journey                                                                                                                        and is their image really clear                                                                                                                          Do you run to try to catch  them                                                                                                           even knowing they're not there

Do you so often speak to them                                                                                                                    not thinking they're not here                                                                                                                                Do you talk about your dreams                                                                                                              or about your greatest fears

Do you sometimes get a minute                                                                                                      when a memory just flies                                                                                                                       Do you fear you could forget them                                                                                                            as the moments tick on by

Don't think your mind could lose them                                                                                                   you couldn't do that if you tried                                                                                                                 Do not think your heart is empty                                                                                                    it's the place their memory hides

About this poem

I wrote this poem for my Sister who lost her Husband a few years ago. She still talks to him every day. He was the love of her life.
