I Refuse
Pride,
They say I have
It but they destroy
It every time.
Is it the way I
Look or smile?
My teeth ate crooked
and I have no life
just like a lion
without its pride.
They’ve dug deep in my chest
But I’m not shocked neither
Am I surprised.
I’ve gotten used
To it but I refuse
To believe it or do I?
It stings and it stays
Like a scar from a bee.
The words buzz around
me but I won’t let them
bee.
It hurts to wake up
But I refuse to not
Stand up
I know it will
Never stop because
It’s inside my mind now...
The mirror shows me
a person that I
chose to deny.
They told me I’m
Nothing but a lie,
a failed abortion.
I refuse to
Let them lie
My time will come
I can feel it from
inside but will it be my rise or
my time to die.
Your words have left
Left scars from inside
BUT MY LIFE IS NOT
YOUR STORY TO DECIPHER.
I REFUSE
BECAUSE MY MOST PRIDE POSSESSION IS
MY LIFE.
About this poem
The poem I Refuse was written in a tone of revival. As we are in the Month of Suicide Prevention this poem discusses the themes of bullying such as a teenager who is bullied and targeted by he/her friends .This poem goes into deeper issues of bullying such as insecurities and body image disorders in the second stanza and the affects it has on one's life such as how this poem is written in freeverse to show how unpredictable and emotionally draining bullies can get each day. I wrote this poem to encourage the youth and older generations that your life is not a story that anyone can just play around with and change however it is your most valuable possession and you must take pride in your life and never doubt your existence in society because you are valuable and worthy. NEVER believe the naysayers. more »
