SAVING ‘GRACE’

Stripped and tore down
By pain and fear of the known
Fractal walls all around
Protecting the fragile child.
I cry for help!
But no ear hears my plea.
‘A girl child’, is a title
Yet! Hard to be one.

Looked down upon,
Bound by beliefs and taboos.

You say,
Its all in the past!
But! – But!
Just like the flooding river
I find am endangered
By my own type of gender

‘Be a woman of dignity!’
‘Be a loving mother!’
‘Be caring to all!’
“Mama” (mother)
I remember all your teachings.

But look at me now,
The sun doesn’t shine on me like it used to be
The smile has faded on my face
An expressionless face is all I offer
I can not pretend to be me anymore
For the traditions still haunt me
Responsibilities more choking

“Mama” (mother)
Its suffocating

I heeded your words,
Seeking out the courage you instilled in me
But I find it hard to breathe.
My tears are forming a sea beneath my feet
I want to laugh with no fake reason
Play around under the bright sky with no fear

“Mama” (mother)
I need saving

The storm is swallowing me whole
Am drowning for the waves of life are massive
No eye sees remorse in these torments
Can no one offer a helping hand?
Defenseless I am against this injustice,
With no strength to fight the war
My identity forgotten in this twisted reality,
I need a hero to save the ‘grace’ left in me
Saving the ‘girl child’ from destruction.
