I'm For Justice

I look up the sun, the skies, the hills, even the mountains
Then I look down at the ancestors who made sacrifices
That we must presently maintain
All these I just mentioned were created by the Almighty, both the enslavers and the enslaved that were slain.

He alone has the power above
But why do those below
Try to challenge His glow
Trying to claim the lives
That was never theirs
But He sees all and gives strength
This same strength that our ancestors harnessed
Saying I’d rather be in my grave
Than be a slave

The inspiring lives of those now in the ground
Can bring us all together to stand our ground
Make sure the debts paid
Do not go in vain
Now we all come together,
Together we strong, Divided we weak
Trust me, this is taking us to the peak

They call it the American dream
Because you have to be asleep to believe it
Just as King prophesied “I have a dream”
So did Malcom when he said “I’m for justice no matter who it’s for or against”

I see a light ahead
Though the night may be long
WE alone and I mean WE alone
Don’t get me wrong
All others  who said “Black Lives Matter”
Actually matter
But deep down we know the truth that WE alone
Can make our future brighter.

For Freedom achieved I say without Sarcasm
Will surely birth a world full of Enthusiasm

About this poem

I wrote this poem when I listened to the African American spiritual "Glory" by John legend. I realized that black Americans sacrificed so much to get their freedom, this poem is a way to honor them and to remind the present generation to keep going that the work is not done.
