THE HELLHOUND

Robert James Smith

temptation the hellhound
is hunting me down
as i dodge through the woods
backyards, alleys and streets

on my own best behavior
i search for a savior
from haunting reminders
of failures and cheats

whether numbing of pain
or avoidance of shame
temptation is truly
life's greatest exam

though i do what i should
and i try to be good
temptation the hellhound
will find where i am
