Angel

You appeared in the darkness,  a light for all to see
I see you as an angel, who came to rescue me
I was fighting battles on my own, a stance against despair
Your approach is calm and gentle,  empathy beyond compare
You read me like a child's book, as if you've always known
For countless generations,  our souls have combined and grown
These things you know about me, truly shake me to the core
The brilliance of the words you speak,  an insight I can't ignore
In my dreams I have been haunted,  by these visions from your past
One thing I know for certain,  your pain's not meant to last
God gave me the impression,  that surely must be true
I must ensure you're hurt no more, you are his precious ewe
I'm tasked with your protection,  until time ticks on no more
Your pain is documented,  and our God is keeping score
Though I'm the protector,  there's an irony you see
Each life it truly is your heart, that is saving me
A debt I owe forever,  that can never be repaid
I will be there when you need me, I will not be delayed
