The Cat and The Sparrow

The cat stopped licking himself and gazed
longingly upon the sparrow and her beautiful wings.
'One day that sparrow will be my own'
thought the cat
certain in his presumption.

The sparrow spread her beautiful wings
and rose up to meet the horizon,
never again to be gazed upon
by the cat or his eyes.

The cat continued licking himself once more,
certain in his presumption still.
