By The Time I Left You

By the time I left you, I had already laid your soul to rest a thousand times.

By the time I left you, I unclenched my jaw and gritted my teeth for the last time.

By the time I left you, I knew love was never suppose to feel like this.

By the time I left you, I was regaining the mind you tried to steal.

By the time I left you, everything you embodied made up less then nothing.

By the time I left you, I thought “he chewed too loud” was a good defense for murder.

By the time I left you, I had been shunned with silence for so long conversation made me panic.

By the time I left you, I had cried more than I had laughed.

By the time I left you, you had broken all our wedding vows.

By the time I left you, I realized I was the only one who had meant them.

By the time I left you, I had stopped begging for you to see me as human.

By the time I left you, I no longer knew you, yet somehow I knew you better than ever before.

By the time I left you, I knew I had been conditioned to love you.

By the time you read this, I will have left you.

About this poem

I am currently understanding and healing from a 13yr relationship with a person with true Narcissistic personality disorder. This poem is my lyrical expression to the freedom I am seeking.

B.A Hathor

I always say I am not great at the bio part of these things. However I think its probably more so the deep sadness that over comes me as I begin to think to deeply of my life. I believe I shall try simplicity vs overthinking. I am almost 40, have had children, am currently still married and trying to find me again. I find me when I write and I hope you find me and maybe parts of yourself as well. more…
