War Torn

What used to be smiles became a dream of forgotten smiles
And little petite laughter was long lost after the ensuing sunder.
Trees were crisped and burnt with the thunder
Which came from the mighty jets of western powers.

Children flocked to play on the bounty of foliage
And toiled through the thick grasses of the ground
Finding gladness in the rigor of the dirt
Finding a strange enjoyment in the barest of earth.

The housewife would spend hours on her cuisine
And stir up many concussions of rice
Of plucked beans and diced spinach
And enjoy every one of those moments in her life

Her family would gather around eagerly
Knees bowed down and their bodies fully erect
Waiting impatiently to feed on her cooking
Whilst smelling the aroma with due respect.

Men did often ravage
Through the heaps of paper and their work,
But would return with a jolly smirk
And converse with their family and nearby clerks.

Sadness was a given but did not hinder
Not even the mellow that came with winter
They seemed to only serve as a splinter
Which failed to significantly injure.

Though peace ends its days with a bang
And the joyous soon saw their mate
One which brought such terror
To such a happy place.

Men adorned with tall trucks
Pillaged through their towns
Waving their black flags
And pounding through the ground.

They burnt down their markets
Slaughtered all their men
And took women hostage
Violating them to a grueling end.

Soon the great powers caught wind
And respond with strict force,
Instead handing aid
They did much atrocity with no remorse.

Bombs throned and detoned fire
And ripped through their skulls
Melting through their skin;
Shattering their bones.

Artierly dragged hastily
Piercing through the kids
And tore their torsos
Limb for limb.

Harsh toxins left pestilence
Mothers bled out with cries
Children rotted and died
Death was their ultimate bride.

Ye have seen the power
The immense destruction caused by wars
Yet only condemnation is given
Until it's brought to western shores.

About this poem

This poem depicts the serenity of pre-warn torn areas, the cruetly brought on by extremism and the destruction which is so often overlooked but inspired by western powers.
