Quo vadis
Roelie Rautenbach nick name ; Rodin Bach 1949 (Vereeniging)
Quo Vadis
To all there is a beginning, there is an end
From start to finish, is what we call life
The living starts with the orb of dawn
Then in sun’s trajectory it is clouded or light
It’s a time we must all travel through
Then the sun, a crimson banner, welcomes our night
We can live as poetry filled dreams
As the nightmare of converse verse
With joy or pain or in between
As fast or as slow as we make it to be
Let it come, catch some, let all pass
With indifference, care,
Depending on our reality
We can learn to smile at a memory
Or frown at song or one another as we pass
Or ignore or grimace, be low and tired
We can choose what suits our destiny
Be alongside with, against the tide
Either with love and empathy or with blind enmity
Choose to shout at the moon at night
Or choose to enjoy it’s calm tranquil distance
Absorb the pour of a crescent moon
Or brush off what it has poured out free
the powder of the night sky stars
Our mountains, our clouds, our wind, a wave, the sea
At times we will let the sun come in
At others we will cry the clouds of misery
Those we meet can determine that
As can our love of summer times
Or in the winters of some discontent
It is the result, always, of the direction of our lines
