In the Belly of the Beast
My brother, sister, father, and me went to a theme park one day
Although we expected to have much fun we didn’t have long to stay
After much merriment on the other rides my family members had one last goal
To brave the heights and speeds of a rollercoaster on the roll
There was much badgering and bribery to push me to tag along
For I had never ridden a beast so large and quick and strong
So, into its den we went forth snaking around metal bars right and left
And although there was no clear danger, I could not help but hold my breath
Into its belly now with no chance of turning back around
My sister squeezed my hand, as the beast left the ground.
Its mighty body rumbled as it slowly rose to the top
And I found myself wishing that this ascent would not stop
But that was impossible, we were almost there
Its joints slowly clicking
As we slowed
And waited
And Before I could prepare...
Click
My stomach dropped
The beast tore through the air
Swirling and tumbling with speed beyond compare
It dove and turned with acrobatic grace
It was all I could do for my mind to keep pace
But then
As quickly as our ride started it had to end
The beast groaned to a stop, having used up all the strength it could lend.
We got out of our seats, stepping out to the boardwalk outside
And when my siblings asked me about how was the ride
If it was really that scary after I gave it a try
I said no, but that was a lie
It was scary for me, and I think that’s ok
What made me content was that I did it anyway
