Nightmares keeper

In the darkness
I began to congeal and rot.

Like diamonds, once strong,
now akin to trees under a harsh winter frost,
through which the slightest breeze, once barely noticed,
reveals a brittle & fatigued nature.

It is a cold, grey shell, concealing the core of this windowless cell.
It is the same, dull grey to which my eyes have become so accustom.
I wonder now if I would still recognize colour.
A world without colour; A life without light

Yes, the light…
how I struggle with its memory.
These cheeks once before were kissed by the love of the afternoon sun.
These fingers, once outstretched and eager, have lost their inherent curiosity.

Once I stood to wade among the shallows,
but I have long since been drug out in the depths to sleep.
As I close my eyes I realize,
there is no puppeteer, no demon nor devil.

I am the song of these clamouring chains.
I am my nightmares keeper.
