I can't breathe

Kenyetta Garrett 1981 (Flint Michigan)

When I woke up this morning, I didn't know today would be the day I took my last breathe.
Scared and confused, before I knew it on the ground with his knee on my chest.
One minute, begging and pleading for my life I'm still trying to hold on.
Two minutes, crowd starting to form, phones out cause they know this wrong.
Three minutes people staring, why won't anyone stop him, this is too long.
Four minutes struggling to find air, struggling to say I can't breathe.
Five minutes in the distance I can see my mother's angel telling me it's time to leave.
Six minutes with everything I had in me I screamed Help me mama please.
Seven minutes I give up, I can't hold on anymore, I feel my lungs collapse.
Eight minutes my last thought would this have happened if I were white, doubtful but perhaps!
