Mourning You

I feel lost
I feel broken
Heart heavy
Words unspoken

I loved you in life
I loved you in death
It was much too early
For you to take your last breath.

You promised you'd never leave me
And I'm broken now your gone
I'd give almost anything
To have you home.

To wrap your arms around me
To fix the brokenness inside
But you left me in this in-between
When you crossed the great divide.

I miss you with each breath I take
I miss you more than words
I miss the smiles upon your face
And the words I never even heard.

Will there ever come a day
When the hurt in me subsides?
Will the emptiness inside myself
Be with me all my life?

Mourning you is easy
Because missing you is tough
My heart hurts so bad
Because our love wasn't enough

To help you fight your demons
To take away your pain
And now that you are gone from us
We'll never be the same again.

But I'll hold onto your memory
All the good times that we shared
I'll pray that you are finally at peace
And that you know I always cared

Until we meet again some day
Across that great divide
I'll hold you in my heart
For the rest of my life.

About this poem

I lost my brother last week and this is my poem to him. These are the words I would probably say if I could see him again.

May your brother rest in peace, this is a beautiful tribute to him. The 'great divide' is not as great as we think, he will watch over you always.
