My lagacy

Chrisjin hayes
I used to be your hero
I remember when you told me
When you where young
I'm sorry my son
I don't know what iv done
To unwind that bond between us
I remember when you first called me daddy
I took u camping with me and the family
Played on swings
and went swimming at the beach
I put you to sleep next to me
And the next morning you woke me
With a tiny voice so sweet
You spoke to me
You said da dee

And I knew you loved me
I missed your first steps
I missed your first teeth
But I told you I would never leave
Cuz your mom was crazy
Had a lot of fun in her teens
So I knew You needed me
To be your protector
And To teach you
To scold you
To hold you
To mold you
Into the man  you came to be
When i got custody when you were 3
It was the most happy day for me
I always had my buddy
I  finally had a family to love me
Your mom tried everything to get you
Called cps on me every week
Pick you up from school early
I fell to pieces when you were 14
And told me you wanted to leave
Even tried to run away from me
I caught you Everytime
Even had to call the police
They caught you on county route 3
Headed towards aunt Sherry's
Which is where you would rather be
Live with her when u were 15
Then lived with mom till 18

I put my everything into it
And still couldn't keep you happy
I felt i failed my family
It made me wanna give up
I cried  myself to sleep for weeks
When you said it wasn't because of me
Hugged me as I was in tears
Said I love you dad please don't worry
You have never seen me weep
I'm always a solider never weak
I'm not upset about you leaving
 I see what you needed
You where to smart for this city
Wanted to seek out your dreams
And im glad you are happy
I just wish it was with me

I'm sorry I wasn't the best at parenting
But I taught you alot
And Im proud to see you succeed
No school could teach you
How to not take crap from anybody
Even the teachers and police
You learned math quickly
By counting money playing monopoly
When you were only 5 with adhd
I told u to stand up to your bully
U punched him on 5th Street
He cried like a baby to his mommy
And he never tried it again p***y

We always lived in poverty
struggling  isn't easy
But now you can survive anything
Wise cocky confident and free
I'm proud of you my son
I hope you remember that il
Always be here if you need me
I been writting this since 2013
But wont read it until your 18
or if have your own baby
There's so many memories
I could go on forever writing this story
Someday when i pass
And you can never see me
Just look at my poetry
 you will always have me
You are my legacy
